Alexandra Kempner
PR & Comms Consultant
Whatever the size of and type of organisation, effective marketing is all about getting the right messages to the right audiences via the right channels at the right time. I love working with clients to achieve this and watching their businesses thrive as a result.

PR & marketing skills

Over the years, Alex has worked across the whole marketing mix: she’s been a publicist, copywriter, editor and communications strategist. She has set up and promoted an e-commerce website and used her influencing skills to manage stakeholder engagement campaigns in government and for not-for-profit organisations. She began her career doing PR and media relations and this remains her first love. She still relishes the challenge of picking up the phone to explain to journalists and influencers just why her client’s product, service or idea should be their next big story.

Professional experience

Out of the office Alex is a bit of a rock chick. She loves live music and can often be found at gigs across London dancing the night away in the company of friends and, ideally, a glass of red wine.

After graduating from Manchester University with a degree in history and following the hippy trail in the late 1970s (yes, she really has been every inch of the way overland from Calais to Kathmandu!), Alex’s first jobs were in book publishing: she promoted blockbusters and romantic fiction for two paperback publishers and for six years she was head of publicity and media relations at Routledge Publishing. As a freelancer in Canada she researched and wrote articles and book reviews for local magazines and newspapers. Back in the UK, she managed marketing and publicity for a small not-for-profit organisation before (rather to her surprise!) becoming a civil servant. As a Marketing Manager at the Department for Work and Pensions, she worked in teams developing and delivering challenging large-scale behaviour change campaigns, including helping disabled people to find and stay in work and encouraging working-age people to save in a workplace pension. Most recently she worked for a small local business in north London setting up and promoting an e-commerce website selling Victorian-style tiles to the trade and individual consumers across the UK.

Based in Crouch End, Alex is looking forward to introducing businesses in north and central London to the many benefits of working with Business Clan.
